The Journey of an Illustrator

Asante Ewers’ path to becoming an illustrator began with a deep love for drawing and visual storytelling from a young age. That passion led him to the prestigious School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, NY, where he honed his craft, developed his artistic voice, and immersed himself in a vibrant community of creatives. While studying illustration, Asante explored everything from traditional watercolor techniques to digital media, building a portfolio that was both technically skilled and emotionally resonant.

After graduating, Asante began showcasing his work in pop-up galleries, local exhibitions, and online platforms, drawing attention for his expressive use of color and narrative-driven compositions. His illustrations often feature cultural motifs, nature, and introspective themes that invite viewers to see the world through a more thoughtful lens.

Driven by a vision of creative independence and collaboration, Asante co-founded AZS Art Studio with his mother, Sheniqua Ewers, a seasoned graphic artist, and his sister, Zuri Ewers, a talented photographer. Together, they’ve created a family-run studio that blends illustration, design, and photography into one powerful creative brand. Asante now leads the studio’s visual storytelling work, continuing to grow as both an artist and entrepreneur—one brushstroke at a time.

With over 20 years of experience, Sheniqua leads with bold vision and design clarity. Her work spans branding, print, digital media, and motion graphics—always driven by purpose, impact, and a deep love for the creative process.

Seeing the World Through Her Lens

Zuri Ewers discovered her passion for photography at the age of seven, when her grandmother gave her a tablet that became her first creative tool. What began as a young girl taking pictures quickly developed into a genuine passion for capturing beauty in unexpected places.

By age ten, Zuri was attending an adult photography club, where her natural curiosity and talent stood out. Recognizing her potential, one of the club members gifted her a Nikon camera with a simple challenge: “See what you can do with it.” That moment opened the door to a deeper exploration of photography and helped shape her creative eye.

Zuri’s work explores non-traditional portraits, landscapes, beaches, and, most especially, the sky. She is drawn to unusual perspectives, unexpected compositions, and the beauty often overlooked in everyday surroundings.

Her photography invites viewers to see familiar places differently. A photograph of the sky can feel as though it was captured high above the clouds, even when Zuri is standing on the ground or looking through a car window.

As a member of AZS Art Studio, Zuri brings curiosity, imagination, and a fearless perspective to photography. Her work reflects a simple but powerful philosophy: sometimes, you don’t have to go somewhere extraordinary—you simply have to look up and see what others may have missed.
